Frequently Asked Questions
Q: You aren't starred or rated in any way. Why not?
A: This is a very good question. Presently the rating system for hotels and, in particular, guesthouses and bed & breakfasts, is fraught with confusion and misunderstanding - almost to the point that it is meaningless. The scheme is currently being looked at in depth and is due to be given a major overhaul. We feel that until there is absolute clarity about the information, and what it means for YOU, the customer, then we are going to sit it out and wait. Otherwise it is wasted money and an expense that we would have to pass on.
We know what we would expect from a high quality guesthouse, and we have strived to provide as high a quality accommodation, furnishings and food as we can for the budget. We are sure that you will not be disappointed.
Q: We are arriving by train at Penrith. How do we get to Keswick?
A: Penrith is approximately 16 miles from Keswick and is served by a bus service. There are also taxis available at the station. Also, depending upon the notice that you give, we can collect you if available. Please ask well in advance if you would like to take this option.
Q: We will have mountain bikes with us. Do you have storage where we can keep them at the end of each day?
A: Yes, we have an outhouse. Realistically we could accommodate 2 bikes in the outhouse but there is also room in our backyard area for other bikes as long as you don't mind them being in the open (we could lock them to the wall for security and throw a tarp over them to keep them dry. It is quite a private area).
Q: Do you have a drying room as we know what the weather can be like?!?
A: We don't have a dedicated drying room as such. But we are more than happy to either tumble dry your wet waterproofs (as long as they are not muddy and gritty) or we can hang them in our laundry room whilst we are drying our linen. The same goes for walking boots (except for putting them in the tumble dryer that is!).
Q: Do you cater for vegetarians?
A: Indeed we do. And vegetarians don't just get a Full English but without the bacon and sausage. As well as cereal, fruit juice and yoghurt we provide a choice of the following : Croissants with butter and jam, Porridge, Scrambled eggs on toast, Boiled eggs, Full (or part) English breakfast which includes Vegetarian Sausage, Fried, Scrambled or Poached Eggs, Grilled Tomato, Mushrooms and baked beans. Toast is also provided along with tea or coffee.
Q: What about Vegans or any other special dietary requirements?
A: With enough notice we can pretty much cater for anyone. But generally the easiest thing is that if you have a particular requirement that you come equipped accordingly (Soya milk, Gluten free bread etc). Please make us aware when you are booking if this is the case.
